madder root

Last weekend, I had the privilege of learning to make natural dyes with Rebecca Burgess at Twin Pond Retreat in Vermont. Although I am just beginning to dip into the sensual delight of harvesting colors, I already see the world with new eyes. Black-eyed susans and pokeberry, two plants I have yet to try, jumped out at me on my walk home this afternoon. Last week I wouldn’t have been able to spot these plants, much less draw out beautiful colors such as these!
